Ok ,no tea-break last night..too busy.
We get very used to that in this job,,but when most of the night is spent with a very rowdy patient who is very drunk(not to mention his extended family)...I can't help but feel annoyed.I'm not aiming to make a judgement here, what people choose to do in their own time is ,I suppose ,none of my business..but if only they would STOP AND THINK.
Of course ,more often than not they are very quick to tell us what a lousy service we give etc etc.In the meantime ,one of the consequences of their actions is less time for us to care for really sick people.
I'm sure this story could be repeated ad nauseum daily by 100's of nurses and doctors.
Enough of that,
On a happier note we have people like Kitty, the lady who was calling a taxi to bring her to the Shelbourne for tea ..at 2am on Wednesday night.I just love Kitty and I really would love to have more time to listen to her fantastic stories and insights. She volunteered some great advice last night when our drunken patient was being particularly obnoxious. However,I opted not to act on the advice ...just in case I got struck off!!Was tempted though.
All of us are tired tonight .A common problem after a hectic night is that we're so hyped up we simply cannot sleep when we get to bed.Every sound becomes exaggerated, lawnmowers, cars, birds ..you name it.
must go.

Dear Night Nurse,
What terrific work you do. Please continue posting Kitty's story. It bears stiking resemblances to a character I knew
